Did you know that lavender is fabulous flavour to use with citrus and chocolate in your cooking? Leven K Farm has 3000 lavender plants at Inglewood, a three-hour drive from Brisbane via Warwick or three and a half hours via Toowoomba. Owners Kellie and Matthew open via appointment during the lavender season and on open days when visitors can wander through the lavender rows and enjoy morning tea or lunch. There are distilling and picking demonstrations too. The Leven K Farm Shed Shop is filled with lavender products and gifts, including lavender essential oil, lip balms, heat pillows, lavender bags, soaps, body oils and the very popular Shona’s Lotion. Lavender teas also feature. The best times to visit (by appointment) to see the lavender flowers are between November and February. At the end of your visit, continue on driving for just one hour to get to Goondiwindi and where you’ll find plenty of places to stay.
Guru Tip
The flowers of Lavandula angustifolia make the best culinary lavender. They can be used like herbs in cooking but need a careful hand. Try them in biscuits, ice cream, brownies, vinegar, cheese, bread, muffins and cakes.
Insta Moment
Does it get more Instagram-friendly than lavender fields with rows of purple blooms?
