It’s all about the view and the brew at Montys Brewing Company. Perched right on the edge of the Great Dividing Range at Highfields, just out of Toowoomba, the brewery offers exceptional Lockyer Valley views. It all started back in 2008 when owner Nathan Semmens returned from London and couldn’t find a decent cider. Now he has a bustling restaurant and brewery where the beer is served direct from fermenter to tap. The craft microbrewery takes its name from a friendly carpet snake, dubbed Monty Python, that used to drop in and check out owner Nathan’s home brewing skills. Nathan has eight Montys beers and eight guest brews on tap. You’ll dine well here. Montys uses produce from local Wagtail Farms at Crows Nest. Come for a Sunday live music session but watch out for the launch of their breakfast menu. Just a quick two-hour drive from the big smoke, Montys makes a perfect scenic Brissie day trip. Make sure you continue out through the foodie mecca of Hampton High Country to Crows Nest. The good news is that pets are welcome here and there is a veranda if it’s raining.
Guru Tip
Try the Hard Lemonade. It’s an alcoholic lemon drink fermented with Crows Nest Lemon Squash.
